2016 Hamilton Elks Ryder Cup
Sunday, October 9th
The 2016 Ryder Cup was contested over 27 holes with three different 9 hole formats. The first nine holes were played on the Blue Course Four-Ball format, followed by Modified Alternate Shot on the Front Nine and Singles on the Back Nine. We had a total of 44 players and the matches were structured based on the players handicaps. Each of the teams added new players this season, so here are the results.
Four-Ball Match Play
Red Team 7 1/2 points Blue Team 3 1/2 points
The Red Team captained by Bud Stelzer and Mike Basilone started strong taking the first three matches and finished up the Four Ball with a four point lead.
Modified Alternate Shot Match Play
Red Team 5 1/2 points Blue Team 5 1/2 points
The Blue Team captained by Wayne Rassel and Forrest Holger stepped up their game in the modified alternate and kept their team within four points heading into the singles matches.
Singles Matches
Red Team 12 1/2 points Blue Team 9 1/2 points
The Blue Team won the first three matches and pulled within one point. The Cup was still up for grabs with nineteen points remaining. After half the matches complete, Red had picked up three wins and moved their lead back to four points. The Red only needed four points out of the last eleven to secure a 4th win for Team Red. Red won seven out of the last eleven matches to win the 2016 Ryder Cup.
